"I just went in for a regular audition for the role of Dualla actually... And I remember I went in and it was a really smart scene that we did and I had so much fun with it. Because in Galactica, they have a unisex "head"; a unisex bathroom. And so there was a bit of play with words, because when a civilian like Billy comes in, he doesn't know what's going on. He's like, "Head?" It was really tongue in cheek and slightly sexual and I just had a lot of fun with that....And after that the director said to come back for Starbuck....

(The 'head' scene. Kandyse McClure as Dualla.)

So I went in for Starbuck and did the first part against Katee down in LA because I did the other part up in Vancouver.... Then me, and Katee and I think a Latino girl were all there at first. And it was like, 'What are you here for?' 'Starbuck.' 'What are you here for?' 'Starbuck.' And I'm thinking, 'They really have no fracking idea what they want!... Jamie Bamber was also there because he was going for Apollo and they were doing the two characters next to each other. And at the end of the day they narrowed it down to me and Katee, and Jamie and another guy and they told everyone else to go home. And then they couldn’t decide so they told us to go home. I think we had to wait a week and they called back. I had a bad feeling that I didn’t get Starbuck, but my agent told me, “But I have this character Sharon.” And I thought, “Sharon? Who’s Sharon? I don’t want Sharon.” I only wanted that other role....And then I didn't get Starbuck and I was pissed. I definitely did not want to play Sharon, because she seemed like the nice girl."

Ultimately, Grace never auditioned for Sharon: "I just got the role of Sharon. I auditioned for Starbuck. And then they gave it to me and of course now I'm ecstatic that I get her."

Grace admitted that when she signed on for Sharon, she wasn't aware she was playing two characters- and that they were Cylons: "I shouldn’t keep admitting this, but I didn’t know. In my defense, it’s because I originally went out for Starbuck, and I didn’t really understand the weight of ‘By your command,’ which was said at the very end of the mini-series, which outed Sharon. When I read it again I did a double-take and I went to Ron Moore and said, ‘Why did you switch this?! Is it something about me that made you think you could do this?’ and he said, ‘No, it was always like this.’
